Happy Chinese New Year!
Helsinki had festivities today, and the year of the Rat concluded with the most fantastic display of fireworks I have seen in a long time! The sky filled with sparkles, bursting blooms of glitter and gunpowder smoke, while the wintry air reverberated with powerful explosions. It was magical to stand on the banks of the Töölö cove, feet in the snow and eyes gazing at the overcast sky decorated with shooting designs of color that exploded only to fade into gently falling fairy dust. I associate the smell of the air after fireworks with festive transitions!
A perfect day also concluded with a cozy read aloud session with my sister. She's been ill. True to our tradition of what-to-do-on-sick-days, we have already watched all the episodes of Pride and Prejudice (the old version, which is ten times better than the new one, and way longer...!) and now delved into the lively world of the March girls in Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. Reading aloud, or being read to, is one of my very favorite things to do.
And now begins the year of the Ox, with a visit from my mum on the doorstep of tomorrow!
