This Advent I am reading this by John Piper. I like the idea of preparing for a celebration. We do that in so many ways, but how about the spiritual dimension, does it get lost in the shuffle of holiday parties?
Day 1 was yesterday, and Piper had some suggestions for preparation.
Meditate on the Need for a Savior
"Christmas is an indictment before it becomes a delight."
Do Some Sober Self-examination
"Let every heart prepare him room...by cleaning house!"
Build God-centered Expectation at Home
"Bend the efforts of your imagination to make the wonder of the King's arrival visible..."
Be in the Scriptures and Memorize
"Gather ‘round that fire (His Word) this Advent season. It is warm. It is sparkling with colors of grace. It is healing for a thousand hurts. It is light for dark nights."
Wishing you a meaningful Advent season!
